The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Still Suffers From Issues That Plagued It at Launch
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, released in April 2025, is still plagued by performance issues, including frame-rate problems and glitches, according to a report by Digital Foundry. Despite two updates since its release, the game remains in a state that can be described as "annoying" to "practically unplayable" due to persistent hitches, stutters, and crashing.
Digital Foundry's latest assessment found that many of the same issues that plagued the game at launch still exist, including a memory leak that causes performance to degrade over time. The report notes that the combination of the original game's architecture and the Unreal Engine 5 front-end results in extremely poor frame-time stability that worsens the longer you play.
The lack of updates for the game since July 2025 has led to frustration among players, with some describing it as "abandonware". The game's Steam user review rating is "mostly positive" overall, but recent reviews are more mixed, with some players reporting significant performance issues and glitches.
